5 Home Remedies to Reduce Signs of Aging

Aging cannot be avoided. The cells in your body have a certain lifespan, after which they die and then regenerate. You can’t reverse the aging process, but you can, however, slow it down. Over-the-counter medications, regular exercise, and healthy food choices are all known to reduce signs of aging.

This article focuses on some easy home remedies that prove effective against aging.

1. Essential oils
Aging is usually more apparent on the skin than anywhere in the body. Essential oils, like sandalwood, rosemary, lavender, and grapeseed, counter the effects of aging on the skin by reducing oxidative stress. The antioxidants found in these essential oils shields the skin from oxidative stress. This reduces wrinkles and makes the skin look younger. However, it is advised to dilute these oils before applying. Also, avoid using them if they cause redness or irritation.

2. Green tea
Green tea is an effective shield against the signs of aging. It contains epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is the most powerful sub-group of polyphenols, called catechins, known so far. It effectively destroys free radicals, which helps slow down the aging process. EGCG also increases cell turnover. This keeps the body radiant and glowing. Here’s how to use it: brew a cup of green tea on medium heat and wait till it gets warm. Then, soak a face cloth or a piece of cotton and place it over your eyes.

3. Olive oil
Olive oil is recommended because it acts as an antioxidant. As we’ve already seen, antioxidants help fight off free radicals in the body, thereby protecting the cells from damage. The great thing about olive oil is that you can use it directly on your skin or add it to your diet. When applied to the skin, the antioxidants present in it prevent premature aging, while it may also fight cancer-causing cells that develop after exposure to the sun.

4. Aloe vera
The benefits of aloe vera are well known. It has been used for centuries to cure wounds and keep the face healthy. Aloe vera proves beneficial against aging because it naturally increases the production of collagen in the body. This reduces the visible signs of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles, giving the skin a radiant look. For effective results, cut and peel an aloe vera leaf to expose the gel inside. Then, apply it to the skin.

5. Egg whites
Egg whites are packed with proteins, but the thin membrane that separates it from the shell is a better cure for the signs of aging. It has been proven that the egg membrane reduces wrinkle depth and increases collagen production. Eggs also contain vitamin A, which promotes wound healing and reduces wrinkles. That said, avoid egg whites if you’re allergic to the food item.
